Here we go again
A long time ago, I was just starting out snowboarding, and I figured that to get better, I had to go more often. Also, it was fun. But snowboarding was (and is still) crazy expensive. And I was (and still am), cheap.
I started out just listing lift ticket prices for all the Tahoe resorts, because bizarrely, this did not exist back then. But along the way, I started finding discounts on lift tickets. I scoured the then still early web, kept an eye out at grocery stores for promotions, and listened to the radio and watched TV to see what deals might be out there.
A few people checked it out. Some wrote in to give me more deals. And about a year later, I found a newsletter with some decent discount info, written by a radio marketing guru who had connections with Tahoe resorts. And he gave me a lift ticket for mentioning him on my site.
I suggested he start archiving his newsletters, and I offered my website. He said go for it, and before the season was done, we had setup Slidingonthecheap.com.
We kept things going – the newsletter, deal discovery, etc. for over 12 years. Along the way we setup one of the first online lift ticket storefronts, gave away hundreds of lift tickets, and got people lots of good deals on lift tickets.
I kind of want to do that last part again. So here we are. Let’s see what we can find.
